Sohrab is like a spiritual reincarnation of Hassan and represents how Hassan will always be there for Amir to fight his battles.

Maria A. said...

Why do you think it mentions all the time in Chapter 22 that Amir felt at peace? hmmmm I wonder...

Shelby M. said...

I think he helped Amir because hes a slave and knows what its like to have no help.

kaseyb said...

I agree with Rachel that Sorab defended Amir because he wanted to escape, and also I think that he did this because he is a lot like Hassan and he knew it was the right thing to do and he wasn't afraid to back down.

KaylaL said...

Sohrab stood up for Amir because he didn't want to see Amir get hurt. He was just like his father, Hassan hated seeing people get hurt. Sohrab also cared about Amir.

Trevorg said...

I think Amir finally felt relieved when he got that beating because it was pay back for what he did to Hassan

Christine said...

I agree with people on the inner circle because Sohrad wanted out probebly and the only way to do that would be to help Amir.

Jenna F said...

So basically Jason is saying that Amir can't do squat and needs Hassan and Sohrab to save him?

Allison M. said...

I think that Sohrab is very much like his father. He wants to do the right thing, and stand up for his friends or even people he doesn't know. He will always be there, and he is such a gentle soul that he always willing to help.

hilary l said...

I think that Sohrab knew who Amir was before he said what his name was. Sohrab knew that anything other than Assef would be good the run away with. Sohrab knew it was the right think to do to try and save Amir becuase that is just what his father, Hassan did.

nathanb said...

Definately Jason. Way to go! hahaha. Umm yeah thats what I think too. Amir is a pansie and stuff so yeah he needs someone else to fight for him.
:D

allie f. said...

I cannot keep up with this.

Bandido said...

Chapter 22 was like the end to an action movie from the early 90s. Well actually Amir was laughing through it so it was more like a fight scene from Secretary.

Whitney C said...

Yeah Amir's beating is his refreshment from the guilt he has felt about Hassan

Erin said...

some things that Sorab and Hassan had in common are that

-they always have a sling shot.

-they always do the right thing to protect others

-they are both discriminated on because they are Hazara

-and they both saved Amir from Assef

-0h and they also look A LOT alike

i think hassan and sohrab are the same in ways because they both save amir from assef and they both stood up to assef

Trevorg said...

I think sobrah is kind of stepped in as his father after he died. He kind of protected him like his father did when he was little.

nathanb said...

From Jaime.

I think that when Amir is taking the beating, he is finally feeling less guilty about the fact that he didnt help Hassan because earlier on in the book, he actually hoped that someone would find out, and that he would be punished for it. Like when he wants Hassan to throw the pomergranet at him.

chadf said...

I think that Sorhab and Hassan are similar in the way that they both stood up to Assef in order to help defend Amir.

JordanR said...

i agree with tyler. Amir getting beat up symbolizes that he finally is taking the beating for Hassan, which he should have done so long ago. But sine he waited so long to finally do it, does it mean as much?

Whitney C said...

I think the fading in and out just means how chaotic this scene is. He basically just shows the severity of the beating.

jake a. said...

i think the fading in and out shows how severe the beating assef gave him

hilary l said...

I think that Amir feels at peace finally when he is being beat up because he was finally giving back to Hassan. He found who he was finally and he stopped betraying himself.

KaylaL said...

To answer Maria's question...
I think it mentions all the time that he is at peace because he really is. He really feels forgiven by Hassan, he feels like he hadn't really let Baba down, he was saving Sohrab. He felt like he understood for once. He finally felt at peace.

nathanb said...

Does ANYONE have food?......please?

chadf said...

I think that the fading in and out shows how badly he was beaten up by Assef and also how he is begging to cope with not always being there for his beloved Hassan.

Maria A. said...

On the inner circle, Tyler and Rachel was saying standing up for yourself and not for someone else, it is easier to felt at peace. Also, talking about Soraya and the driver, not meeting Soraya could change Amir in thoughts.

kaseyb said...

I think I agree with Tyler that Amir is finally free of what he did to Hassan, and that he took that beating for Hassan. I also think that it is important that he was beaten by Assef because he was the one that raped Hassan. And I also think that this beating would have occured when they were young too if Amir would have stepped in, so it was coming for him anyways.

Jenna F said...

Umm... Mackenzie... by comparing a son to his father what exactly were you trying to do? I'm somewhat confused....

Allison M. said...

I think that the fading in and out of chapter three symbolizes how horrible Amir's beating was, and that he is a little bit delusional. Or maybe it symbolizes his state of mind, and that he is always drifting in and out of his past. I also think it show the instability of his relationships and his life in general, and how he is always fading and contradicting himself.

chadf said...

I think that the hare lip that Amir had was representative to Amir becoming like Hassan. This also shows that Amir is overcoming his regrets.

Trevorg said...

I agree with Jake, I think when he finally stud up to Assef like hassan did and he felt like a weight was lifted

jake a. said...

i think the author was trying to show that he was kinda like hassan in a way and how he had stood up to assef

nathanb said...

From Jaime

I agree with Allison and Mackenzie in that Hassan and Sorab are very much alike in a variety of ways. They also have very similar personalities like being generous and loyal.

Bandido said...

The fading in and out could have been because of an amateur screenwriter. You're only suppose to do that at the begginning and end of the movie.

When Amir got the cut on his lip it was another example how Hassan came back spiritually and gave another example of how much closer he is to Amir even from the grave. This book is so deep spiritually that Siddartha can just go cry a river.

Travisg said...

i thinkt that Amir taking the beating is freeing him in a way because he is finally taking that weight off his sholders because he feels like he gave back what he took.

kaseyb said...

I think that the hairlip between Hassan and Amir symbolizes that they are always close, and also that it is a reminder that he finally paid everything back to Hassan.

Christine said...

I agree with Jaime like he did mention that he wanted people to know what he let happen. He wanted to be punished and all the years that had passed he had still felt really guilty so getting the beating he definatley releaved.

jenniferb said...

I think Amir feels that because he took a beating for himself and didn't have someone else do it then he was growing up and becoming a man. Hassan always stood up for Amir and now Amir is standing up for himself.

toreinm said...

I Think It's Trying To Display How Amir Can Relate To Hassan. I Think This Shows Just How Much A Simple Action Can Pull Hassan And Amir Back Together.

hilary l said...

I think that Amir had finally given back to Hassan and that is why he has the harelip. The harelip really represents Hassan and Amir is acting like Hassan now. Amir has stood up for Hassan and his son and it resembles their friendship.

Trevorg said...

I agree with Chad I think that lip will remind him that he had payed his debt to Hassan

Erin said...

umm....Jenna.... the question BY AMANDA was what are some similarities between Sorab and Hassan....

thats what I was answering.

what are you talking about?????

Bandido said...

Jenna, on a scale of one to 10. How much of a sissy is Amir?
but seriously, he has always needed the protection of others or the provoction of others to get anything done.

chadf said...

I think that so many things of the book are resurfacing here. Things such as "One-eyed Assef" which is what Hassan said Assef would be.

Jenna F said...

I think that the fading in and out is the fact that Amir is injured and in the hospital... It also is showing his life changing before Amir's eyes; from the cowardly boy to the brave man.

toreinm said...

Yeah, I Agree With Rachel. It Took Him A Long Time, But Hassan's Blood Line Finally Held Up His Promise, "One-Eyed Assef". I Think That's A Huge Deal Because, Whether Or Not Sohrab Knew The Story, I Doubt He Was Thinking About That At That Exact Moment.

Maria A. said...

On the inner circle, the eye thing, commenting on Rachels comment, it is a repayment and now it is a one eye thing relating back to the book. And the hairlip, relates to humility and doesn't understand why it is a big deal. This is a good well thought out way to look at it.

Allison M. said...

I like what Mrs. Leclaire said about this book and specifically this chapter being like a circle, and it has finally come around the cycle. Especially with Assef and how he lost his eye. This refers to earlier in the book when Hassan stood up for Amir, and told Assef he better leave or else he Become "one eyed Assef".

nathanb said...

This is jaime

I really like the connection that Rachel made about when Hassan threatend to make him "one eyed" and in the end he did end up with one eye.

hilary l said...

I think that Sohrab sling shooting Assef's eye resembles him as being just like his father. His father said he would take out his eye but he wasn’t able to but then his son took the eye out and saved the day!!

chadf said...

I think that Baba was the only adult that was unclear of the situation between Amir and Hassan.

KaylaL said...

The harelip has a huge significance in this chapter. Amir is fianlly becoming a man, he is finally realizing how much Hassan meant to him. Having the scar like Hassan will always remind him of the great friend he always had.

jenniferb said...

I agree with Mackenzie in that Hassan and Sohrab have many characteristics in common. One of the major ones though, is when they both stand up to Assef and help Amir in whatever he needs.

Jenna F said...

O! Thanks Mackenzie! That's what I was confuzed about!
And depends on which part of the book, Jason. In the beginning he's probably a 8 or a 9 but by the end of the book he's more of a 5.

Travisg said...

Yeah i agree with rachel. I also think that the beating was more of a symbolism of Amir repaying his debt to his friend.

toreinm said...

I Think Ali Knew That If He Told Baba, Baba Wouldn't Have Talked To Amir At All. He Would've Completely Disrupted Amir's Childhood And Ali And Hassan Are Both Too Nice To Want That For Amir, No Matter What He's Done To Them.

jake a. said...

no i think sohrab is just scared because of the things done to him by assef

Trevorg said...

Hey, this is Jason here.My computer died to the crazy amounts of Tetris being played on there. But to comment about the Sohrab being a little uneasy when being touched. I think he might have gotten abused when with Assef, and he is now emotionally scarred.

allie f. said...

I agree with Brooke on Sohrab being scared of everyone because of how Assef was to him.

Whitney C said...

I agree with Brooke on what she said about Sohrab not being comfortable with anyone becuase of what he has been through.

kaseyb said...

I agree with Brooke that Sorab is just scared of everyone because of what Assef did to Sorab. I think that he just doesn't trust anyone right now.

Jenna F said...

I agree with Chad about how all the idea's from Amir's child are resurfacing. The foreshadowing his being proven.

Whitney C said...

Ok I really just have to say this....

ASSEF IS THE NASTIEST AND BIGGEST CREEPER EVER!!!

hilary l said...

I think that Sohrab knows that Amir is a good man but he is just scared for life because he was so abused that he cannot deal with physical contact from anyone. His life is going to be hard getting over his childhood with Assef and I think he needs to get as far away from him as possible.

KaylaL said...

Sohrad doesn't know who to trust right now. He lost all of his family and then the people that took him (Assef) raped him, he didn't know who to trust. It would take a while for him to learn to trust Amir.

Assef is such a nasty man.

I think Assef kept Sohrab around to show his power. Assef had control over the many Talib's but he couldn't do anything to them. Sohrab was the one person he had control over at the time.

jenniferb said...

I think at first Sohrab was scared whenever Amir touched him because of what Assef did to him. Assef was very cruel to Sohrab and because of that he is scarred and is scared of everyone even if they are good. Sohrab also is not sure if Amir really wants to help him or if he wants to put him in another orphanage.

Allison M. said...

I totally agree with Whitney, for sure. What a creeper-tron!

Shelby M. said...

I think that he is so afraid of people because of the way Assef has been treating him.

Erin said...

sure,

and I agree with Mrs. Leclaire,

If Assef thinks that he is Hitler and he wants the perfect race, why does he continue to rape them and what not if they are so "dirty?"

Maria A. said...

In the inner circle, I don't think Amir will be like Assef. Assef has been raping Sohrab, and talking about Ms. Leclaire's questions, why Assef is so dirty and other people can handle im around, making a point and showing a power with control. People are afraid that he doesn't have that power and have the people around him have discumfort so he feels at the top.

Trevorg said...

Assef kept Sohrab around because that's the closest thing to finally ending Hassan that he has. This dude is such a control freak and would be at home on some Mtv realityshow

Maybe Rock of Love or That's Amore!

toreinm said...

I Think Assef Keeps Hazaras Around To Show His Power And To Punish Them. Maybe He Feels That Killing Them Would Be Too Fast. Maybe He Feels Like He Actually Has To Punish Them.

I Think Assef Also Feels He Needs To Show Control Over The Hazaras In Any Way Possible.

And Maybe It's A Warning For Anyone Who Dares Oppose The Taliban.

Jenna F said...

To Whitney's comment,

AGREED

kaseyb said...

I think that Assef keeps Sorab around because it shows his power and control, and because he is an evil person, he wants to show everyone this power because he was scared.

toreinm said...

jake a. said...

i think he made them up because he knew amir would take him home and be a good father to sohrab

nathanb said...

Its Jaime

I completly agree with Brooke that Sohrab is scared of everyone. It makes sense because that is all he really knows.

jenniferb said...

I think Assef did all of those nasty things to Sohrab because it showed he had power and that no one should fight him.

Whitney C said...

I totally agree with Rachel. Rahim Khan's intention was to make Amir take Sohrab back with him and there weren't any Americans that would have taken Sohrab in.

JordanR said...

I don't understand why Assef is raping kids, and why he did it so much worse to Sohrab. I think it's partically because he wants to dominate everything in his path and thats one way he feels that he can dominate someone. Also maybe it's because he knows that it will have a big affect on Sohrab. It will and did destroy him emotionally and physically, now Sohrab feels weak and thats just what Assef wanted.

Trevorg said...

It trev now
I think that Assef needs to be shot because of what he did to Hassan and what he did to sohrab

hilary l said...

I think that Khan wanted Amir to save Sohrab and adopt him into his own family. Amir and his wife were not able to have children on their own and they didn’t want to adopt children because they didn’t want to have a child without their own blood but now that Amir knows that Hassan was his father's son then he knows who's blood it was.

Travisg said...

i agree i think that he did want to heve AMir go back so that he could see the things he grew up around. I think that he thought it would be a very humbling experance for him becasue he could see all the things that change over time. His entire life has turned around and now that he sees all the change first hand he realizes how much time really changes a place.

toreinm said...

Oh Yeah. I Agree With Hilary.
The Blood Line Would Continue With Sohrab Because Baba's Blood Was In Hassan Which Got Passed On To Sohrab. And By Having Baba's Blood, He's Also Got Bits And Peices Of Amir's Blood.

KaylaL said...

I think Amir wanted to adopt Sohrab because he wants to do something good for Hassan because Hassan did good things for Amir.

I agree with what Hilary said about Baba's blood continuing on. Sohrab has Baba's blood in him, he truly is part of the family. That's why they want to adopt him.

JordanR said...

I wonder if something happened in Assef's past to make him such a creep, was he possibly raped when he was younger?

nathanb said...

Its jaime

The fact that they are adopting him is not really going to erase what happend, although it may make him feel like he is doing his part. I agree with Rachel when she said that he will never forget, and will probably never really forgive himself for what happend all of those years ago, but he is beginning to accept it.

Allison M. said...

I agree with Rachel and Whitney, I think it was Rahim Khan's plan all along was to actually have Amir adopt Sohrab. Also I agree with Hilary, that Sohrab does have the blood of Baba. And that was the problem in the first place, that Soraya and Amir wanted to prolong their good blood. I also think that they were'nt able to have a child because theyy were meant tio care for Sohrab. Just like Hassan always looked out for Amir, now Amir is looking out for him and his son. I don't know though... just thinking out loud.

Erin said...

jordan,

I think that Assef continue's to rape because he doesn't know that its wrong, and he rapes Sohrab more, because he wants to feel like he is still getting back at Hassan.

Whitney C said...

By adopting Sohrab...it's like a final closure to the ginormous situation Amir has had to deal with. Also Amir in many ways loves Sohrab.

jenniferb said...

I think Amir feels that he has been forgiven even though he will still have that little regret of not helping Hassan. But him taking in Sohrab helps him feel that he is on his way to be good again. He also feels as though Hassan is happy that Amir is helping his son.

toreinm said...

I think something happened to Assef to make him the way he is. I think all people are born good, and they can be swayed either way.

Jenna F said...

I agree with Rachael. Assef's parents just don't seem like the type of people that can do anything to their sin. Back during Amir's party, they seemed to follow him around as if he were the adult. I don't think they have much control over Assef.

Allison M. said...

I think that's a really good question. Why is Assef so messed up? What life changing events caused him to feel such hatred towards Hazaras and other people who are considered unworthy? And if he is so obsessed with purity and good blood, and real Afghans, then why is it that he is allowed such authority when he is only half Afghanistan himself?

Maria A. said...

Did you think Amir was going to give up towards the end of the book since we was week in the hospital, before you found out that he became strong at the few last pages of the book?

toreinm said...

I Think Sohrab Knows That If He Goes Back To The Orpanage, Things Are Going To Be Difficult And He'd Rather Just Stop Trying.

chadf said...

I think he tried to commit suicide becuase he is so tired of what life has become.

rachelf said...

TraciAnn said...

Why did he try to commit suicide? I think that sohrab commited suicide because event though he acts happy he isn't and he misses his parents. I think he wants to be happy but it is so hard to forget what happend.

toreinm said...

Probably Because His Old Life Was An Amazing Life. It Seemed Like A Very Good Life. His New Life Kinda Sucks.

BrookeG said...

Why did Sohrab try to commit suicide?
I think that he tried to commit suicide because he wanted his old life back, and since he couldnt have it back this was the only way out. he was so miserable in his new life.

Keiko A said...

I think that Sohrab tryed to committ suicide because he was so miserable in the orphanage and he was already promised that he would never have to go back, but because that is an option I don't think he knew what else to do.

Erin said...

I think that Sohrab tried to commit suicide because he would rather have died then go to an orphanage. And also because he was sick of feeling insecure and he wanted someone to care for him. Maybe he just wanted to be with his family again.

Bandido said...

I agree
With whatever was just said I absolutely agree with it. Unless it's playing football with babies then I'm like "No way. That is wrong."

Sohrab wants his old life back because Amir is such a weirdo. And he's just a kid so he wants something familiar and safe. Plus Hassan was a cool dude.

Trevorg said...

Yea i agree with chad i think he just got tierd of where his life was going and he thought there was no perpose to life without his family

BrookeG said...

Sohrab is so unhappy in his new life because everything is unfamiliar to him, he doesnt feel comfortable with anything.

toreinm said...

Amirs Old Life Really Was A Good Life Too. Amir Really Had One Of The Better Lives That Everyone Would Be Jealous Of. And He's Made Decisions He Wishes He Hadn't And Now He Wants To Go Back.

Travisg said...

I think that he wants his new life back because he felt at home with his old life. He had more of a sense of security in his home land because that is where he grew up and that is what he is confertable with.

rachelf said...

***this is jaime mondragon***

I agree with rachel when she said that he was going to kill himself because he would rather be with his family in heavan than down in the orphanage. He thought it was sort of the only way out because he was so sick of the way that everything is going.

TraciAnn said...

The leaders asked why Sohrab is sick of his life? I think he is just sick of not feeling safe and not feeling loved. He lost his parents when he was young and he lost so much. Above all he lost his dignity when he was Assef's prisioner. He just wants to feel safe again.

Maria A. said...

I think the suicide decision through Amir was brought from the living life style and his chilhood. The many bad images and deaths along with the things that happend to close ones came back to Amir's head. Close to the end of the book, he sorta flashbacks every bad thing that had happend before and I think that is pressure brought into suicide.

jake a. said...

i dont think its possible to fix it but you can learn from it and become a better person because of it

jake a. said...

i dont think its possible to fix it but you can learn from it and become a better person because of it

Keiko A said...

I think that it isn't possible to fix a problem you made in the past, but you can work to make the situation better and learn from what happened.

toreinm said...

I don't think you can fix most of your mistakes. I think you just have to accept them for what they are and learn from them. I mean, obviously it depends on the situation, but for the most part you can't go back and fix it.

allie f. said...

I think Sohrab committed suicide because he was so miserable and he just didnt know what to do with himself and he felt so alone and he has been through alot and he felt that was probably the only way to escape.

Trevorg said...

Yea he is kinda in the same boat as Amir was they both have messed up lives but Amir faught it he just decided to give up

Travisg said...

I don't think that it is posable to fix something that happened in your past becasue you can't go back and change what happened to them. You can only try to make it up to them and hope that they can recover from it!

BrookeG said...

Mrs. Leclaire asked if it is possible to fix something you did horribly wrong in the past. I agree with Whitney when she says that it isnt possible to change it or fix it, but you can learn for it and learn not to make the same mistake again.

Bandido said...

There is no way to fix a mistake. You can only keep doing things to bury it in your memory in a deep dark place until it shows up again at some place like JC Pennys resulting in a big scene caused by wire hangers.

toreinm said...

It also probably depends on how much time you let pass. sometimes it doesn't really matter what you did if you try to fix it right away.

Trevorg said...

You can always make up for mistakes.

jake a. said...

i agree with alison also i think you cant fix it also

TraciAnn said...

Mrs. Leclaire asked if you did something horrible if there was anyway to fix what you did? I think that yes there is away to fix it if you change yourself and if you forgive yourself everything will be ok. It depends on how bad the thing you did was.

jake a. said...

i think he would keep praying if sohrab lived

I think that he is looking for forgivness and this was way of trying to get over what happened

nathanb said...

THIS IS JAIME

I think soray feels really sad when he is so quiet because its hard for her because she wants her own kid. I tihnk she feels dissapointed and rejected because she was expecting a little happy-go-lucky kid, instead of a depressed one.

jake a. said...

i think she feels sad that he is not happy but will be soon

chadf said...

I think that Soraya feels let down that her and Amir were forced to adopt their own kids. Also I believe that Sohrab is bittersweet that he is in America becuase he is glad to be free but misses his homeland.

Keiko A said...

I think that Sohrab is really sad and depressed because he feels like he was betrayed by Amir when Amir said that he would never have to go back to an orphanage so he probably doesn't know who he can trust.

Bandido said...

When Sohrab grows up he'll see that Amir was a righteous dude who saved him from the hellhole known as Kabul. And also he needed a vacation from that place anyway. Also America has a great library of reality television which is just the thing Sohrab needs to numb his pain.

KaylaL said...

Jenna...
To answer your question, Rahim died.

jake a. said...

i think he is glad to leave kabul because it leaves behind a bitter life there for a new one in america

I do believe that he intended to kill himself to see his parents because he hates being in the situation he was in and he wanted to escape his situation.

allie f. said...

I do believe that he intended to kill himself to see his parents because he hates being in the situation he was in and he wanted to escape his situation.

Maria A. said...

I agree with allison on having Sorab leave Kabul because he is glad to leave from all the bad, but he will also miss all the memories and some of the people.

Trevorg said...

yea i agree with whitney i think he will keep his promis but he will be reluctant to do it

JordanR said...

I think that sohrab was happy in a way to leave Kabul cause thats where everything bad happened, i know lots of good things in his life happened there too but he also lost a lot of things, ex: his parents, and his pride.

Keiko A said...

I think that Sohrab tryed to kill himself because his life has been going downhill since his parents were killed, so he wants to have all that back and the only way he thinks he can do that is by being with Hassan and Farzana.

BrookeG said...

Hilary asked if Sohrab attempted to kill himself to see his mother and father again. I think he did, he wanted to escape because he thought he would go to an orphanage again, and he was abaolutely terrified of that idea. And he wanted to see his mother and father in heaven.

Jenna F said...

I know Kayla but I'm asking the question to see what people think happened to him before he died. I meant as in where did he go after he helped Amir. I know he died but I was interested in the opinions of everyone on where he went to die.

Erin said...

I think that Soraya feels like she is doing something wrong because Sohrab doesn't talk. She probably feels bad about herself because he isn't talking and she tried to have a kid and now the kid is being "mean."

chadf said...

I think that the general was upset at first becuase he was not sure of whos blood Sohrab was from. Blood is such a big sign of family in the Afghan culture that if you have a child of different blood then your family name could be ruined.

Trevorg said...

I think he was happy to leave all those bad memories but he will miss the memories he has of his dad

Bandido said...

The General was probably like, "Not in my house!"
But he was right because later that day everyone got onto their myspaces and posted endless mounts of comments about the Hazarra boy.
It took the General hours to delete all those nasty pic comments. No way was he gonna PC4PC.

But still, they're livin' in the past, man. This is 2001 baby, get with the times.

KaylaL said...

I think Sohrab just wanted out. He didn't want to feel like he was a burden to Amir. He just wanted to feel loved and like he was wanted. He was loved and wanted but it was just hard for everything to follow through. Trying to get him into America was the hardest thing, it wasn't that Amir and Soraya didn't want him, they just had to wait. Sohrab also wanted his old life back, he probably thought that since his parents were both dead the only way he could get his old life back was if he was dead too.

KelliL10 said...

i agree with Allison and how she said Amir is finally standing up for Hassan and I agree with Rachel and how she said he is standing up for himself.

Bandido said...

His silence symbolizes how golden everything is at the moment.

nathanb said...

When the general heard about sorab i think he was dissapointed becuase he wanted to keep up good impressions. He didnt want people to know that his daughter was living with a "hazara boy."
I agree with allison in that this is a significant part of the book because he is finally standing up for hassan and sorab. He is accepting what happend and feels compfortable letting everyone know the truth now.

Keiko A said...

For Jenna's question...I don't think that he did anything special when he left, I think he just went off to die in peace.

Hilary asked what the significance of Amir standing up for Sohrab was. I agree with Allison when she said that it was sort of like Amir making up for all those times he didnt stand up for Hassan.

I think that the author included the scene with Amris because he is now showing that he isn't afraid to stand up. He is standing up for Hassan, for Himself, and paying back Sohrab or shooting Assef for him.

I think that scene had more to do with how Amir has found his strength and is finally standing up for hassan in a way

In the inner circle, WHat does Sorab's silence symbolize, I think he just wants to keep things inside of him and it sortof shows low self esteme in a way.

I think that the kites symbolize hope and a new beginning.

I think that the kites symbolize how Amir was finally able to cope with the fact that he had let hassan get raped and now he was making up for it through Sohrab.

the kites connect everything within the book...it's kind of like completing a "circle of life" I'm not sure though.

The kites symbolize how Amir has taken a full circle on his spiritual journey and how powerful Hassan is in spirit form to become one with Amir. Like the tear enducing part when he was all like, "For you a thousand times over." That part was so good on a spiritual metaphysical level.

The leaders asked if Sohrab was bitter to move away from Kabul. I think he is bitter to leave his past and the land where his mom and dad died. He does want to start over with his life though. He wants things to be good again.

I agree with Allison when she said that Amir is finally standing up for himself and making things right with Baba. He is proving Baba wrong because Baba told Rahim he thinks Amir never stands up for himself and has others pick his fights for him.

I think Sohrab's silence is just his way of not becoming attached to the world. I think he believes that its not worth the pain, as he has already lost everything once, to go through getting all tied up with a 'new' family. He wants to remain seperate from everyone so that he doesn't have to lose it all.

THIS IS JAIME

I do think that sorab is bitter about the fact that he had to leave his homeland, but even more that he has to deal with the death of his parents. He is having a hard time copeing with all of the new changes, but i do think that he is greatful that he has been given a new chance at life.

Do you think that the book is titled for Hassan or is it titled for Amir as "The Kite Runner?"

KaylaL said...

I agree with Allie. The kite symbolizes hope and a new beginning.

The kite reminds Amir of Hassan, it was something that they did together. At the beginning of the book Amir flew the kite with Hassan and at the end he flew it with Sohrab, Hassan's son.

that passage shows how much he wants his fauthers respect and how much they miss there old life, they just wanted things too go back to the way they were before everything started to change!

What do the kites symbolize in the end? I think that the kites symbolize a way to be good again like the book mentioned in the begininning. The kites symbolize that there are better things to come and the complicated past is behind them, they can let go. I agree with allison when she said that it symbolizes his new friendship with Sohrab.

i think that the kite represents when things were good and happiness. I think this because Amir and Hassan were happy when they would fly kites and that was when everything was fine and good...then the kites were not flown and desaster struck...now in the end the kites fly and things are good again!
