Glimpsing into the Future

Three years ago, this classroom was filled with old, wooden desks in rows. There were no laptops in the school.

Ten years ago, there were no computers on teachers' desks nor in classrooms. Nobody used PowerPoints, and classes were primarily lecture-based, rather than discussion-based.

What do you think our school will look like ten years from now, in 2017? What will the classroom look like? What will learning look like? How will class be conducted? Explain your thinking.

Our classrooms will be very technology based and we will probably be sitting on like couches and be talking about non important things, probably just like what was on tv last week because someone will probably invent a program that teaches you everything you need to learn in one view. So their won't really be a reason for going to school. We actually will probably all be taking our classes online. Our socitey is all caught up in what's in the media and all the cool technology that we never take time to get a grasp on reality. I think this is really stupid because reality isn't on a tv show it's the everday life that you're living.

I think that in 2017 everyone will have a laptop that they take to every class with all of their notes, quizzes, tests, worksheets online. There will be a website for teaching so that you don’t have to go to school to learn because the teacher will be online. Everything will be technology based and the world will be much smarter.

I think that in ten years from now the classes will be the same but everyone will have a laptop instead of binders and books. Everything will be computer generated. I agree with Hilary that we will probably take all of our tests, quizzes, notes and worksheets online. Everyone will know how to work a computer and will be able to solve problems faster.

I agree with Hilary on how everything in schools will be technology based. I don't think that we will be staying at home for classes and for school in 2017 yet. We will still have to go to school, but school will not be as long as it is today. Everything will be done on computers or some form of technology. There will probably be some form of new desks that will be used but they will not be as big as they are today. I don't think that there will be a teacher in the classroom, only a supervisor. The teacher will be some voice or video that is online. Students will learn and contribute online rather than on paper with pens or pencils.

in ten years they will not have paper classes because al gore will have made a mvie about that two and forced everyone to go to the computers so i think that in ten yeas we will only be able to type in class. then we will all never make it to collage because the requierments will not be met.

I think in 2017, things will be immensely different. Like Travis said I think classes will be entirely computer and technology based. There won't be any need for pencil and paper, and everything you need will be contained on your computers. We will most likely be sitting on floating couches or something, and Teachers could even possibly be robots. Maybe classroom walls will even be like "the parlor walls" in Fahrenheit 451, and images will be flashing all over the screens to explain what we are learning. Let's just say, things will be very different from classrooms today.

Our whole school full of classrooms would be much more complex in the year 2017! There will be keyboards that you can type things on a desk and not having to worry to hook up anything. For example, on the computer screen there will be a "lazer" light that projects onto any surface and you can just type on a desk or table. The teaching skills will probably be different as well. Since 2017 is not really that far away they will make up something like powerpoints to have students learn about a subject. There will probably be nothing done on paper and mostely technology will be used. I agree with Whitney on not having to be at school as long but still going to school. With all the cought up technology and new technology and strategies, it will not take as long to learn different subjects.

I agree with everyone that said our school will become completely technology based. I think that there will be no more paper at all and that we might not even sit in desks anymore, we might use more comfortable chairs that help you channel your most productive brain activity or something like that. I also think that we might forget a little bit of the simpleness of things in the future because we might become so wrapped up in our technology, that we forget to slow down.

In the future i just think it won't be much different then ours. I do agree with amanda and think that it will be more technology based then it is today. And i also think that everything will be done on the computer or on something more developed then a computer. But no paper, pencil, or pens. The reason i came to that conclusion was due to the rising of technology in our generation. There is so much more being invented and it is being invented faster and faster each day. I think class will be barely anything verbal. The teacher would give you asignments or websites where you learn things. All the textbooks would be online. Well the text books are already online but not everyone has computers at home and thats the reason that we also used hard book copies. In 2017 every family should have at least one computer in their house. Computers are getting cheaper and more afordable for lower waged familes. Overall i think that school in 2017 won't be too much different then it is today.

The way I see it, classrooms can only get better from here. I mean if you look at history at the beginning of humans were not even here to have classes and then rocks came and then lizards and all that junk until humans. And that is when we truly started to have classes. Like when Affarjarkinlass would teach Trillilllillilllopperaniuoioioiom about how to bash in his own head with a giant club. And then they would all gather around the huge black rectangular prism and jump around and yell at it. Much like a punk rock concert these days. And also I’m not talking about real punk like Melt Banana, Ruins, or OOIOO. I am talking about the crap punk that gets played on the radio over and over until you eventually feel like you could play the song better than the band who supposedly wrote it, even though they really just took two chords from a favorite song of theirs and played them over and over. So to get back to what I was saying, there is this huge black rectangular prism and since I just referenced 2001: A Space Odyssey I think it would be okay if I just went ahead and skipped all that other boring history. To sum it all up, white people screwed everyone over. So with that all said and done I am pretty sure ten years from now, I’ll try to make sure I’ll still be in high school by then so sorry Ms. Leclaire but that whole banned book project wasn’t feeling right for my artistic endeavors. In fact this whole going to class thing is just messing up my art. It’s the right angles people! Get rid of them please! So this might be the last all of you, if you even took the time to read it I am hoping the bulk of this response will steer you away from this like men and AIDS. So since I will be there I can safely tell you that no one pays attention in class. And you thought you were bad? You have not seen anything yet, and you may not yet be able to see this due to global warming and the genocide in Darfur, but…hey! Wake up! And you, put the gun down! C’mon, what is this Russia? Seriously people, I am trying to speak through words here, and do not let your mind drift about the future because I have it all covered for you. The future, no one will pay attention. Wait, didn’t I already say that. Sorry I must not be paying attention since I am currently living in the future as I type. Think about it, with all this media pouring stuff on us really fast the only way to absorb it all is if we adapt and be able to memorize it all and consume it all real quick. So if we keep this up in the future ten years no will be paying any attention because if you do you might end up missing what’s going on around you and technology will help. In fact, as I was typing this I missed the doorbell a few times (24) and could not give all the children awesomely teeth rotting candy. So in conclusion, technology will ruin our attention spans and the future and stop me from giving kids candy to help rot those disgusting teeth.

In ten yrs from now, i do not believe we will be in a classroom anymore. I believe we will all just take time out of are days to plug a device into our heads that teaches us all the information we need to know. With this we process and keep all the information we learn in our brains. It would be rather easy and then everyone will be a genius.

I Believe It's One Of Those Things Like When You Have An F In A Class. It's Really Easy To Get It Up To A Certain Point, But After That, It Get's Harder. I Think Progression In Society Might Get Slower, But Still Get Very Far. I Think Everyone Will Have Laptops And Computer Based Notes, Test, Classes, Ect. I Also Think Things Like The iPhone Will Be One of Those Things Where They're Really Cool, But Everyone Has One. And I Think Things Like The iPhone May Be Used For Classroom Use. I'm Not Sure In 10 Years How Many Classes Will Still Have Human Teachers, But I Think Eventually We Will Have Eliminated Them All Together.

In 2017 I think, like everyone else, that our school will be technology based, and instead of being lecture based it will be the complete opposite, maybe even with students running the classes. I bet we will be working on laptops for everything and sitting on bouncy balls :D.

Like everyone else, I believe that classes will be based around the new technology. Our technology could be so advanced that school will no longer be needed. Classes will probably be online.

I believe that the classroom will be completely technologically oriented. Every student will have their own computer and instead of using paper a student just has to email their project to their teacher. The classrooms will be filled with humming computers that create the unbearably warm climate in the room. (Just had to say that.) Students and teachers will be able to keep in touch and ask questions more efficiently through email and live chats. All in all a classroom could very much be anywhere, outside, at a library even at home.

I agree with everyone else too because technology has been a huge part of our lives already. In a couple of years from now who knows what kind of technological miracles could be made that we had never even thought of. A couple of years ago we would have never thought that a cell phone could have your music, pictures, videos and the web and still have the basic capabilities of a phone, and now we have the iPhone. Because technology is growing so fast I think that all of the classrooms will operate on some type of machinery, whether it be a computer or something new that was invented. There are really a lot of things that could change for our lives at school in the next couple of years, but no one can be sure so we just have to wait an see.
